Whale Watching

I'm not talking about sitting outside the grille at lunchtime. We went out on a boat to see the real whales http://www.whalewatch.com/dolphinfleet/ . Although, there were two big ole lesbians in front of us in line munching on some fish and chips, so you could say the whale watching started before we even left the dock. Hunk had to stay back in the camper for this trip. We had a great time. We saw about 20 whales according to the marine biologist aboard many were in pairs and there was at least one group of about five. A few surfaced right along side the boat. I know we were safe and all but it was a little unnerving to see something that big that close to the boat. You watch in awe as this huge whale just gracefully surfaces along side the boat and all you can think of is one flip of that tail or if he comes up directly underneath we are all gonna be swimming. We came back into dock safe and sound. We had dinner at Bubala's by the Bay http://www.bubalas.com/ . I had some clam chowder and a lobster because I'm in New England and that's just something you need to have. Home to feed Hunk have some cocktails and go to bed.

Another Day in Provincetown

We took Hunk back up to Provincetown http://www.provincetown.com/ just to make sure he didn't miss anything shopping. He seemed satisfied with what he already bought but it was fun to keep looking. We had lunch on the patio at Govenor Bradford Restaurant where he was given a big bowl of water to drink while we ate. The food was good by my one juice glass of a margarita cost as much as the lobster blt I had. After the day of shop hopping with stops on the beach for Hunk we headed back but we stopped at the dog park to give Hunk a little off leash run around time. http://www.provincetowndogpark.org/

A day at the beach

We took another relaxing day at the campsite and walked to the beach with Hunk. Now that Labor Day as past there are no longer restrictions to having the dog on the beach. I think he finally realized that he could ride the waves and be alright. He still wants to chase the seagulls and the sandpipers. He just stares in disbelief when the fly away over the water. Since it's a slow day I think I'll give you some of my observations about Cape Cod. First, the wives drive the husbands. I don't know if that is because they've been on one too many fishing trips and no longer have the privilege of driving or not but it just seems funny to see the woman driving and the man in the passenger seat. Second, all of the cars and trucks around here have tubes attached to the front. Some of them are on the sides of a grate that holds a cooler others are just across the front of the vehicle. My gay self kept wondering why on earth so many cars had those confetti cannons on the the front and just how many parties do these people have. Then I noticed when we went into town that they are not confetti cannons but fishing pole holders. Seriously, these people have six to eight per vehicle. I don't get it. Can't they stick them in the trunk? That's what they do down where I live. It's funny to see them all rolling in at the end of the day like a parade with all kinds of banners flying. But it's all just fishing poles. And my last observation is that there are the same five vowels up here a, e, i, o, u, but up here they all have the same pronunciation, ah. They go n-ah-th, s-ah-th, ah-p, and d-ah-n. I don't get it. Sometimes I have to watch how they say it to realize what they are saying. Ah-well.

Provincetown

I'll start where I left off, after a few cocktails we took Hunk for a walk before turning in. We went over to the open field, and maybe I was just this side of one too many tequilas but I don't think so but, when I look up I've never seen that many stars in one place at one time. There were no clouds in the sky and it was amazing to see. I even saw the milky way, I don't think I've seen that since I was a child, about two years ago. Today we went up to Provincetown proper. http://www.provincetown.com/ It is the very tip of the cape, surrounded three sides by water. We drove up into town and did some sightseeing from the car it was all very pretty but the next thing we knew we were on the main road back out of town. We had to drive down to do a u-turn and come back in. We found a place to park, got Hunk hooked up and off we went. It's a cute little town full of B&Bs. I think off season the population is 75 and in season it's 16,000. We walked through town and when we could we cut through to the ocean beach so Hunk could play in the water. He still doesn't have the concept of waves down but he's learning. Lots of cute shops to explore but only one had something I couldn't leave behind. There is a store called The Black Dog, http://www.theblackdog.com/home.php it's logo is a black lab so I had to pick up a t-shirt, a sweatshirt, and a hoodie so I could get the free tote bag (one can never have too many tote bags). Hunk is not a fan of the motorcycle. It seems to be the only thing he can not tolerate. Motorcycles are very popular in Provincetown. We had to stop several times to calm him down but he did great otherwise. We got back in time for Hunk to have dinner and us to have cocktails before dinner. Hunk ate, we took him for a walk, and it seemed the day caught up with him because he came back went into the trailer and went to bed. A few cocktails, dinner, and a few more cocktails we followed suit.

A nice day at the camp

Today was just a relaxing day at the camp. http://www.abcamping.com/abcapecod/ We got up had breakfast, took a nap, had lunch did some reading, took a nap, had cocktails, had dinner, more cocktails and off to bed. The weather here is beautiful it was actually very cool this morning I actually pondered the use of an overblouse to keep warm but took a nap instead. While putting lunch together we also made dinner. We used all of our Paula Deen cast iron pots, purchased at Ollie's, over the campfire. We made chili in the casserole and fried bacon in the skillet. Had b-t sandwhiches for lunch, we didn't have any lettuce. I spent the afternoon reading my course work because online courses can be done from any location, I'm still not sure if that's good or bad. For dinner it's chili over corn bread, we made that over the campfire too. It's a little black around the edges but it'll do. Tomorrow will be a shopping tour of P-town.

A day in town

It was a beautiful day the sky was blue not clouds to be seen so we took a ride down the cape and shopped our way back up. We drove back down to Eastham and stopped a cute antique store with very nice things and very high prices. Moving on. Stopped at a gift barn with lots of touristy stuff at good prices. I was tempted but didn't succumb. Next. Stopped at the Cape Cod Dog store. http://www.thecapecoddog.com/ I bought a buoy bell made into a wind chime attached to the clapper was a cut out of a lab, had to have it. Also, bought three magnets one yellow for Zeke, one black for Hunk, one chocolate for the future Hickory all say Lab-Adore. Next we went into downtown Wellfleet. I say downtown it was a block, if that, and one of the stores was the local grocery. It was cute stopped in a few stores nothing that I couldn't leave behind. We had lunch outside because Hunk was with us at a cute restaurant called Juice across from the water. Then we took Hunk for a walk along the beach. He had a great time. Back in the car to head up the road. Cape Cod is about three miles wide, if that, with one main road. How does one get lost in such a place. Well, we did. It was a pretty drive along the water but every road we took led us to a parking lot. We finally retraced our path to where we were and back out. Drove up to Truro, which is the town we are staying in, made a drive through of their city center. this was a shopping center with six, maybe only five storefronts. One grocery, one restaurant, and a few others. We didn't even stop. It was a beautiful leisurely day could ask for better weather. Maybe tomorrow we'll head up to P-town.

I know you're wondering so I will tell you

The "hurricane" came through around one or two in the morning. It was a good hard rain but where was the wind? There was no thunder no lightning no drama. Even Hunk slept through the night. Bless the weather channel's heart they had it all built up for total devastation and no power and not a tree limb was misplace and the lights stayed on. I'm happy that we decided not to postpone our arrival. This morning the sun is shining there's great breeze blowing and the sky could not get bluer if it tried. Now we just have to decide where to start the tourist stuff.
